Silicone Sponge Rubber & Silicone Foam Rubber Gasketing

Flexible, compressible closed cell silicone sponge rubber is suggested for high performance gasketing, thermal shielding, vibration mounts, and press pads. Our general purpose silicone sponge rubber gasket material is available in three grades of compressibility, determined by compression deflection, and in four constructions. R10470 silicone sponge is a general purpose silicone sponge rubber product that can be used in most applications. R10480 silicone sponge has extremely low compression set and will maintain its resiliency even under extended compression. R10460 silicone sponge is flame retardant. With R10460 silicone sponge held in the vertical position and exposed to a 2,000 degree flame for 12 seconds, there is no residual flame and less than a 10 second afterglow. Like R10480, R10460 is especially resistant to compression set. R10450 fiberglass-reinforced silicone sponge is a unique construction. It has the compressibility of sponge, plus dimensional stability in the X-Y direction. The absence of stretch contributes to the consistent size and shape of die cut parts and eliminates outward extrusion under pressure.

UL Recognized Silicone Sponges & Foams

In addition to commercial grade silicone sponge products, Auburn now offers two new grades of soft silicone rubber gasket material and four new grades of silicone foam. R-10400 flame retardant silicone sponge is a medium-density flame-resistant grade of silicone sponge that will pass UL-94 Flame Testing with V-0 rating from 1/8" (0.125") and up. R10490 fluorosilicone sponge is a modified silicone elastomer, which is often used as the material of choice for applications involving oils and fluids that would degrade other sponge materials. The four new UL-94VO silicone foams offered by Auburn include HT-800 medium firmness cellular silicone foam that combines the lightness of a foam along with the enhanced sealing capabilities of a traditional sponge rubber; HT-820 firm grade silicone foam that provides the same benefits as HT800 with improved durability and sealing: HT-840 extra-firm grade silicone foam that has the highest tear strength and tensile strength available in foam; and

HT-870 soft grade silicone foam that offers maximum compressibility, softness and durability. These products are ideal for sealing outdoor enclosures, protecting electronics from shock and heat, and providing cushioning or vibration isolation for various applications, sealing or protecting various outdoor communications equipment, electronic equipment, or lighting enclosures and providing protection against wind-driven rain or fire. BF-2000 Ultra Soft Silicone Foam is a highly compressible silicone foam. The combination of low weight and softness makes this flame retardant foam ideal for transportation, industrial, and electronics applications where low closure force and dust sealing are critical. Compressibility, softness and durability allow BF-1000 Extra Soft Silicone Foam to adapt to a variety of environments, making it an ideal choice for sealing outdoor enclosures, protecting electronics from shock and heat, and providing cushioning or vibration isolation for various applications.

Auburn Adhesive Program

Adhesive Backings

Auburn can apply pressure sensitive silicone or acrylic adhesives to standard sheets (36" x 36" or 24" x 24") or continuous length rolls at 36" wide of R10450, R10460, R10470, R10480, R10490, R10400, HT-800, HT-820, HT-840 and HT-870. All of these silicone sponge rubber products can have any of the following adhesive types affixed to one or both sides. Sheet thickness will be 1/32" thick or more. The self-adhering sheets permit substantial savings because they are easy to apply, simplify production, and eliminate the high cost of bonding. The SP-2021 Silicone Adhesive withstands the same temperature extremes, -100°F to +500°F, as the silicone rubber sheet. The AP-2022 Acrylic adhesive has a temperature range of -40°F to + 300°F and offers the advantage of twice the adhesion to steel and a longer shelf life than silicone adhesive. New to our product line is the Hi-Temp Acrylic Adhesive, which is capable of withstanding a temperature of 450 F, while providing the high-bonding strength of an acrylic adhesive. All of these self-adhering adhesive-backed sheets are protected with an easy-to-remove peel-off liner for application to a clean, dry, degreased surface.
